03. Scones

03. Scones

Now this blog was not started to be a cooking or baking blog, but because I’ve had time this weekend to be able to bake, I want to share these recipes (see my previous post for the other recipe!). Today was a perfect day for baking – due to it being a rainy day.

Scones are probably my favorite breakfast baked good along with muffins. Best of all, scones are surprisingly easy to make (not that muffins are not easy to make)! Now, I can’t remember where I found the main recipe for them, but this is the one I use.

The recipe I’m sharing is for Blackberry Vanilla Scones. I typically come up with flavors based on the things I like or whatever sounds good. At the bottom are a few other kinds scones I’ve concocted.

So let’s get down to it.

02. Memorial Day Weekend

02. Memorial Day Weekend

Ah, Memorial Day Weekend. The un-official official kick off to summer. A weekend filled with family, friends, grilled food, drinks and a good time.

My MDW started off with being able to leave work an hour early – which was a plus for me since I still had packing to do. I left work, rushed home and started packing my bag. I was packing to stay over at Pete’s on Friday night (we will be moving in together in September !!) and Saturday morning I was headed down to Cape May, NJ.

Friday night consisted of Pete and I going for a run (we’re trying to get back into shape and decided to do it together) and coming home to make home made pizza and drinks. Saturday morning consisted of quiet, French Press coffee (which is my new obsession – a must try) and Pete.  After we finished our coffee, we started getting ready for the day. Pete headed off to work and I headed down the shore to see family. The day was filled with bike riding, beach (hello sunburn), grilling, and shopping.

But what I want to talk about is something that is an essential treat for a weekend full of grilling and fun.

Baking is probably one of my favorite things to do. Last year, I had been scrolling through Pinterest (here’s where you can see all the things I pin) to find something new to bake for a work event. I came across these Sugar Cookie Cheesecake Cups and decided they looked light, delicious, quick and easy to make. They were a hit! This year, Pete’s co-worker’s hounded him asking if I would be making these and sending them with him to work for their Memorial Day Weekend celebration. Thankfully, I had already been planning to make them for him to bring in.

Here’s the recipe – I can’t take credit for it, it was one I found on Pinterest.

01. First Post Ever

Hello!

For quite some time I’ve been wanting to reconnect to my creative side. I decided blogging was something that would allow me to express myself, share my story, and my adventures. And I mean, why the heck not?

As an aspiring Interior Designer (I say aspiring due to the fact that I am looking into pursuing and obtaining my professional license) one would think “Why would you need blogging to be another creative outlet? Isn’t creativity your job?” The answer to that is yes and no. My work consists mostly of corporate and laboratory design (sounds cool right?). Both are pretty limited when it comes to creativity. There are set standards and criteria that go into creating those spaces.

But who says we can’t bend the rules a little?

The other part of me wanted to start a blog to share.  I recently left my second job (where I met my boyfriend of almost 3 years now!) because I was feeling burnt out. I needed something else and working one day a week on top of working a full time job wasn’t fulfilling anymore. So I left. Now that I’ve had some time to think about what I wanted, blogging was the first thing that came to mind. I will admit, I had my hesitations, what would I say? Do I even have anything interesting to share?

I decided to just go for it. Share what I’m cooking (something I’ve recently taking a liking to) baking, what inspires me, or what kind of things I’m up to. So here we are! Hello again and welcome! A place for creativity, sharing and everything in-between.

Enjoy!
